Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Zinedine Zidane should now be able to green-light the sale of Gareth Bale – a power he did not have when he was manager of Madrid in his first stint.
He told Sky Sports News: “Zidane has made it clear that he decided to resign last year because the president [Fiorentino Perez] didn’t accept his decisions. On the other hand the president decided to keep Bale as his most expensive signing ever.
“Perez doesn’t want to accept that he was wrong when he thought Bale could be the leader of this team when Cristiano [Ronaldo] left. It’s a big problem now but it’s difficult for Bale to be at Madrid knowing the opinion of the coach.
“The president did not want to sell him but now things are different. When he was asked to come back by the president in the middle of the season he said publicly that he would have all the power.
“If those powers are there he will have to accept the recommendation of the coach.”
