You Can Now Watch Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lionheart’ On Netflix

The much anticipated Nigerian movie, Lionheart, which was directed by Genevieve Nnaji, has been released on Netflix today 4th January 2019.

This is coming barely days after the top actress celebrated 20 years in Nollywood.

Late last year, the veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker’s directorial debut became the first Netflix Original out of Nigeria.

After having its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and showing in select Nigerian cinemas, the acclaimed drama is finally available to stream on Netflix.

The movie, which is in English and Igbo languages, features leading Nollywood actors including:

  • Genevieve Nnaji
  • Nkem Owoh
  • Pete Edochie
  • Onyeka Onwenu
  • Kanayo O. Kanayo
  • Jemima Osunde
  • Chika Okpala
  • Kalu Ikeagwu
  • in addition to Peter Okoye of PSquare fame.

Lionheart follows Adaeze (played by Nnaji), a competent yet perennially overlooked daughter, who is forced to work alongside her feckless uncle, Goodwill (Nkem Owoh), in order to save her father’s (Pete Edochie) ailing bus company, Lionheart.

“Film-making is what I love to do,” declared Nnaji. “I am grateful to have had the chance to share my love with millions over the years.  LIONHEART is the beginning of a journey to explore and express my creative interpretation of story-telling, particularly African stories. Africa is a possessor of the most compelling stories as yet untold, and we are determined to tell our stories, our way, through our voices, to the world. And TIFF is the perfect launch for the film.”
