Juan Mata Discusses His Contract Situation At Manchester United

Juan Mata has said that he is ‘calm’ over his current contract situation at Manchester United.

Juan Mata’s current contract is due to expire in the summer, having been at Old Trafford since the summer of 2014.

Given that there are only months left on his current deal, Mata is now free to talk to and perhaps sign, a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs. Although the Spaniard has always maintained that his first choice would be to stay at Manchester United.

30 year old Mata returned to his native Spain on Thursday, in order to collect a special award from the Queen of Spain for his charity work. While there, he spoke to Madrid based outlet ‘AS’ about his contract situation, saying:”I’ve been in England for a while, but it’s true that at times you miss home, your family, your friends. But I don’t know if I’ll return to Spain in the near future. I’m calm, I’m at the fantastic club that is Manchester United, one of the biggest in the world.”

Furthermore, Mata ended the interview by insisting that United could end what has been a turbulent campaign so far, on a good note. That is if the side can force its way into the top four, or win silverware, most likely in the form of the FA Cup.

He added: “We are focused on finishing the season as well as possible and reaching our goal of a place in the Champions League. We would like to have other objectives but that is the reality. A coach came in who is a club legend and has give us confidence.I am sure there will be difficult times between now and the end of the season but we will give our all.”
