2019 is already positioning itself to be a year of excitement and exhilarating fun all round for everyone and even more so for lovers of video games. Here are five exciting games you should look out for in the first quarter of 2019.
‘Mortal Kombat 11’
Scheduled to be released on April 23, Mortal Kombat is not for the squeamish. NetherRealm Studios and Midway Games worked the crowd at the 2018 Game Awards into a frenzy when they teased the latest title in the decades-old fighting franchise.
Not shying away from the graphic violence that made it a fan-favorite when the series first launched in 1992 (and also sparked quite a bit of controversy), the first new installment since 2015’s Mortal Kombat X seems prepared to beat down the competition from other fighters.
Scheduled to be released on February 22nd, Anthem follows the disappointing release in 2017 with Mass Effect: Andromeda, bioware returns with an attempt at an entirely new franchise.
While the game’s development was marred by a bit of a rocky road (Casey Hudson, the creative director of the original Mass Effect trilogy originally supervised Anthem before leaving the company in 2014 only to return as studio head in 2017), the gorgeous visuals and mixture of third-person shooter and action RPG gameplay will surely pique your interest.
‘Devil May Cry 5′
The duo of Dante and Nero both return as the fifth installment in the demon hunting hack-and-slash franchise that is guaranteed to bring carnage with massively improved visuals for the current generation.
Director Hideaki Itsuno who launched the series in 2001 on the PlayStation 2 will also be returning and the video game is expected to be available in stores on March 8.
‘Tom Clancy’s The Division 2’
Coming from the stables of Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft, the online shooter-RPG takes place in Washington, D.C. in the midst of a civil war. Game players can team up with others from around the world for raids and missions.
The original Division game had the most successful first-week launch of any new title in gaming history in 2016, generating about $330 million. The game is expected to be released before the end of the first quarter of 2019.
‘Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’
FromSoftware offers its own take on feudal Japan in its latest action RPG.
This game is brutally hard yet gorgeously presented and comes from the makers of the popular Dark Souls franchise and they have shown that they don’t only know how to present a challenge to players, but also how to create indelible impressions that influence many others in the industry.
The game is scheduled to be released on the 22nd of March 2019.
