Z Nation has been canceled by Syfy after five seasons.

The cabler confirmed its decision to end the show after producer David Michael Latt first announced the news in a video on social media.

“We wanted to tell you face to face… that we were not renewed for Season 6,” Latt said in a late-night Periscope video on Friday. “We’re stopping at Season 5. We’re very sad, but we’re also really grateful with the opportunities that we had on the show.

“This is not the end of anything,” Latt said. “This is just the beginning of a lot of things.”

The Dec. 28 season 5 finale will now serve as its series finale.

Streaming giants Netflix has already picked up a prequel series, Black Summer, which has an eight-episode order. The story concerns a mother searching for a daughter after the world collapses.
