French DJ, Martin Solveig stunned both viewers and attendees when he asked the first female Ballon d’Or winner, Ada Hegerberg if she knew how twerk moments after claiming the historic award.
DJ Martin Solveig, who hosted the awards ceremony, asked Norway’s Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage, the Lyon forward promptly shutting him down before leaving the podium.
Awarded to a woman for the first time in the coveted individual prize’s 62-year history, Hegerberg beat out Australian Sam Kerr, the Perth Glory marquee finishing fifth.
Viewers and journalists were quick to jump on the bizarre request, some describing the incident as “a disgrace” and “several steps back”.
Absolute trash: French DJ Martin Solveig asks Ada Hegerberg to twerk after receiving the first women's Ballon d'Or award. (Love her response, though.) This is the crap female athletes deal with on a daily basis around the world.pic.twitter.com/y2TLe3v4u9
