Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has dismissed calls for Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to be punished

Jose Mourinho caused a touchline scuffle between the two benches in the aftermath of Chelsea’s late equaliser at home to Manchester United

For his column in the ‘Daily Mail‘ Clattenburg praised the decision taken by the match offical Mike Dean, who he says ‘used his experience to calm the siuation’, following Mourinho’s lunge at Chelsea assistant Marco Ianni.

The Portuguese took an extreme disliking to the Italian’s wild celebrations for Chelsea’s late equaliser, and opted to confront the home team’s assistant manager almost immediately.

And, according to former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg, given that ‘passions were running high on both sides’, alongside Dean’s dealing with the issue, there should be no further action taken against aggressor Mourinho.

Clattenburg offered his opinion in his column for the ‘Daily Mail’, writing: ‘ I can understand Mourinho’s reaction to Chelsea’s coach Marco Ianni celebrating in front of him. Dean did not panic and let tempers settle. It was good refereeing and Mourinho should not face any disciplinary action over the incident
