Atiku Meets Obasanjo In Abeokuta, Seeks Baba’s Blessing Ahead Of 2019 Elections
The presidential candidate of the main opposition party (PDP) has arrived the Abeokuta home of his former principal, Olusegun Obasanjo, and his currently in closed-door meeting with the former President.
Atiku, who was the Vice-President to Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, and recently emerged PDP candidate, hopes to convince the former president to support his ambition.
Bear in mind that during their tenure, both men later fell out, with Mr Obasanjo vowing never to support Mr Abubakar’s presidential ambition.
“How can I be on the same side with Atiku?” he asked. “To do what?”
“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support,” he added.
Meanwhile, Atiku arrived the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Abeokuta, at 1.09pm.
On Atiku’s entourage are the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; his campaign director, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Senator Ben Murray-Bruce; and a former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, among others.
It is believed that leaders from the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, had earlier visited Obasanjo on Tuesday, allegedly to prepare a soft landing for Atiku in Abeokuta, considering the frosty relationship between him and his host.
