Drama As Ambode Rushes To Tinubu For Photos At Jim Ovia’s Book Launch
A mild drama played out on Monday, September 17, during the launch of ‘Africa Rise and Shine’, a book by Jim Ovia, chairman of Zenith Bank, as Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode rushed to take photograph with his estranged godfather, Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As the event was winding down to a close, the Master of Ceremonies invited the state governors present at the occasion and other dignitaries to the podium to take photos with a large copy of the book and the author.
Aside the former and current governors of Lagos state, dignitaries that gathered on the podium for the group photos included Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; Governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima; Dr Christopher Kolade, among others.
Ambode earlier stood in between Messrs Ovia and Kolade, but as photo journalists started taking shots, the Lagos governor jogged past Ovia, Osinbajo to squeeze himself in between Tinubu and a woman on his left side.
The scene elicited cheers, laughter and applause from those on the podium and many other guests.
Bear in mind that Ambode had earlier acknowledged the political prowess of his godfather, who is fondly referred to as ‘The Jagaban’ by admirers, stating that he was not prepared to give a speech.
“Actually, I didn’t prepare to come and say anything here. And who am I to speak after the Jagaban has spoken?” he asked.
Although he has consistently denied it, Ambode’s relationship with Tinubu is strained, culminating in the latter’s decision to back Jide Sanwo-Olu for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.
