Lazar Markovic’s Liverpool career has reached a new low with the winger demoted to the Under-23 squad.
Lazar Markovic was a £20m signing for Liverpool from Benfica in 2014 and, at the time, was considered one of the most promising players in world football.
Markovic has made just 19 Premier League appearances in four years and has had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting, Hull City and Anderlecht.
The Serbian was expected to leave in the summer but a proposed permanent move to Anderlecht failed to happen
The Belgian club’s president blamed the 24-year-old for the deal falling through, but Markovic insisted it was not about money.
With 12 months left on his Liverpool contract, Markovic is now set to walk away on a free transfer next summer.
He last played a competitive game for Liverpool in 2015
He has not been named in either Liverpool‘s Premier League or Champions League squads this season.
