Ghana To Deport 72 Nigerian Women For Engaging In Prostitution
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has disclosed that it will be deporting 72 Nigerian women over their involvement in various illegal acts in the country – including prostitution.
It was gathered that the deportees were arrested on Thursday following a swoop by Enforcement Unit of the GIS at the Redco Flats neighbourhood at Madina.
Apart from the 72 Nigerians arrested, one Togolese as well as nine other Ghanaians were nabbed.
It was further gathered that aside prostitution, some will be deported from Ghana for not having resident permits for their illicit trade.
Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), Linda Asare Mantey who addressed newsmen at 2IC of the Public Affairs unit of the GIS after the arrest, said the foreign nationals will be deported as the arrested Ghanaians have already been handed to the Police to be prosecuted.
According to her, 20 of the suspects were arrested at the Junior Hotel at Madina.
“It is illegal to come to the country and engage in prostitution,” Supt. Linda Asare Mantey added.
Mantey also disclosed that the agency will soon turn attention to owners and managers of hotel facilities who hire their facilities out to irregular migrants and locals to use for prostitution.
