Djokovic, who won Wimbledon in July, now has three U.S. Open titles and 14 Grand Slam titles in his career, tying him with American Pete Sampras for third place all time.
In his last seven tournaments, Djokovic is now 34-4. He beat Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon semifinals and Roger Federer in the Cincinnati final. At 31-year-old, he still has a chance to chase Nadal’s 17 major titles and, possibly, Federer’s 20.
Before the U.S. Open began, Djokovic told The Journal that he recently had many doubts, but now felt as confident as ever.
“I really trusted life, I trusted that it was going to get me to where I am at the moment,” Djokovic said. “There was always part of me to believe that I’ll still be able to win Slams and to be one of the best players in the world.”
