The Premier League is finally back and the first game of the 2018-19 season kicks off by 8pm when Manchester United take on Leicester City at Old Trafford
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will hope his players can beat Leicester City, despite failing to land a defender throughout the summer window.
What the managers have said before the game
Jose Mourinho (Manchester United): “It’s the same squad. We change the third goalkeeper for Lee [Grant] because Joel [Pereira] is such a good young goalkeeper that he needs to play.
“We change [Daley] Blind for a 19-year-old kid [Dalot] that we believe has the potential to play right back and left back.
“We changed [Michael] Carrick for Fred, so our squad is the same.”
Claude Puel (Leicester City): “I can confirm he (Harry Maguire) is going to Manchester – but only for a couple of hours!
“I am happy to keep Harry. He is our best player.
“I am a football manager and I want to keep our best players for the squad and for our season. We want to keep good ambition.
“We lost Riyad Mahrez, who was a very valuable player for us, so it was important to keep our best players and have good additions to the squad.
“We have to prepare for this season with good possibilities.”
Manchester United’s squad is stretched through injuries and fitness issues with players just returning from the World Cup
Sergio Romero, Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and new signing Diogo Dalot are all out through injury
Paul Pogba, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini will be assessed after returning late following their World Cup campaigns , while Anthony Martial’s availability is unclear after missing the final pre-season friendly at Bayern Munich.
New signings Lee Grant and Fred are available to feature
Leicester City manager Claude Puel could give debuts to Ricardo Pereira and Maddison, and will make a late call on new signing Johnny Evans who is nursing a muscle strain. Maguire is short of match fitness but could also feature.
