Four Common Causes Of Dandruff Asides Dry Skin

Do you have problems getting rid of those pesky white flakes or dandruff That constantly worry you? A number of factors may be responsible for a flare-up, ranging from your diet to how often you wash your hair.

You’re Not Eating Well
It’s not surprising that healthy skin and hair come from the inside out. While experts try their best not to blame dandruff on a poor diet, certain foods may cause a flare-up, especially if you’re already prone to dandruff.

Diets high in saturated and trans fats cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil or sebum, which makes dandruff worse. Aim to eat more healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs, whenever possible.

Great sources include avocados, nuts, olives, and safflower oil. Too little vitamin B complex, which contains biotin, a nutrient that forms the basis of hair cells, may exacerbate symptoms as well. Load up on vitamin B-rich foods like oatmeal, rice, eggs, and bananas.

Sensitivity To Your Hair’s Natural Fungus
Contrary to popular belief, dry skin isn’t one of the causes of dandruff. The fact is an overgrowth of a common yeast called pityrosporum orbiculare. The yeast feeds on skin oils, which may explain why people with oily scalps are more susceptible to dandruff.

Some people make oil that is particularly likely to harbour this bacterium, and they get dandruff easily. Normally, a mild case of dandruff will respond to self-treatment, or over-the-counter dandruff shampoos and it should disappear after two weeks.

You’re Stressed
Dandruff may be an indication that you are stressed. Stress can worsen any skin condition, as it impairs your immune system and can be one of the causes of dandruff, provoking flare-ups.

This is even more so when the dandruff is itchy. Stress can perpetuate an itch-scratch cycle: the more the patient scratches, the itchier it becomes. Incorporate relaxation techniques into your everyday routine. Try a daily walk, or some deep breathing.

Failing To Rinse Or Shampoo Your Hair Enough
Some people say frequently using a shampoo or washing can strip your hair of necessary oils. But those oils can also create a hotbed for flakes. Dandruff can result when there’s a build-up of oils/sebum or sweat on the scalp.

Washing hair more frequently can help reduce the sebum and control dandruff and its symptoms. You can opt for shampoos with tea tree oil, that a number of studies have shown to significantly improve the severity of dandruff.

And take care to rinse shampoo thoroughly because leftover residue could create a feeding ground for pityrosporum orbiculare.
