EFCC Freezes Akwa-Ibom State Government Bank Accounts
The Bank accounts of the Akwa Ibom state government have been reportedly frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A top official of the government disclosed to TheCable that Udom Emmanuel, the governor, and accountant-general of the state were shocked by the development.
“The governor was shocked when he was briefed about the development,” the source said on Wednesday.
“He has demanded explanation from the EFCC. Our suspicion is that our big friend who just departed is behind the issue but we will fight this injustice.”
The development is coming barely a day after Governor Samuel Ortom raised an alarm that the EFCC has frozen the state’s bank accounts, trapping workers and pensioners’ salaries in a state beset by hardship following months of deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen.
