Alessandro Florenzi has said he was delighted to sign a new five-year Roma contract.
Florenzi ended speculation that he may leave by committing to his home town club until 2022.
“Today is definitely a happy day for me,” Florenzi said at a news conference. “I would like to thank all the fans that are happy like I am with this renewal today. I would like to hug all of them.
“I am very proud, very pleased to be able to continue to wear this shirt and represent this city.”
Monchi, who has brought in 13 new players this summer, hailed Florenzi’s decision.
“This is one of the happiest days in my 15 months at Roma so far, not just as a sporting director but as a person and a fan of Roma,” he said. “One of Roma’s sons has renewed his contract and will stay here at least five years.
“I say it is happy moment because I don’t know how long I will be at Roma, but I hope to one day be a Romanista like he is. This was not a short negotiation, but I think from the first moment we all were confident that it would end well because Alessandro wanted to stay here.”
