This is because they are made up of calcium carbonate, which has been proven to quickly neutralize oesophageal acid.
Chewing gum can help relieve your heartburn or acid reflux by increasing your saliva production, which is a good home remedy. Saliva contains bicarbonate, which neutralizes acid.
A recent research study conducted by the Oklahoma Foundation for Digestive Research found that calcium carbonate gum was more effective in neutralizing acid in the oesophagus than chewable antacids.
Raise The Head Of Your Bed
Nutritionists recommend that you eat at least three hours before you go to bed. The essence of this is to allow your body digest what you feed it with.
However, when you do go to bed, it is recommended that acid-reflux sufferers raise the head of their beds three to six inches high to help cure heartburn. It is easy you use an adjustable bed. Alternatively, you can use pillows to achieve this.
