#WorldCupWith360nobs: Ronaldo Scores Again For Portugal To Send Morocco Out

Morocco have been eliminated from the 2018 World Cup in Russia after Portugal beat the north African side 1-0 in their Group B match on Wednesday, June 20, at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave the European champions the lead with a header in the fourth minute and Herve Renard’s side could not respond, leaving them with no mathematical chance of reaching the knockout stage.

The win is the first for the European champions at the 2018 World Cup after their 3-3 draw with Spain.

Morocco, who lost their opening match 1-0 to Iran, are out regardless of what happens in the later Group B game between Spain and Iran in Kazan.

Portugal will conclude their Group B campaign next Monday against Iran in Saransk while Morocco will simultaneously play Spain in Kaliningrad.

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo became Europe’s all-time leading international scorer with 85 goals.
  2. Ronaldo is now only behind Ali Daei of Iran, on 109 goals, in the global all-time scoring charts.
  3. This is Morocco’s second straight defeat in this World Cup.
