Germany head coach Joachim Low has hit out at German fans for again booing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Ilkay Gundogan was jeered by supporters during last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Austria following his meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Even louder boos rained down once more in Leverkusen on Friday when Gundogan came on as a second-half substitute during the 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia, despite Low gesturing for the masses to applaud.
“He took a picture, yes, but he made no political statement,” Low said.
“He spoke about this with the press last week and underlined his support for German values, that he was born here, brought up here, his family and friends are here. Everybody must move on from this now.”
“That [booing] doesn’t help anyone.”
Ozil, who is nursing a minor knee issue, did not play in the match.
