Manchester City have reportedly offered Mikel Arteta a new contract.
Mikel Arteta was widely expected to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager following lengthy talks with the club’s board.
However, it is believed that former Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery will be appointed as the new leader later this week.
The Spaniard has more experience than Arteta given that he has taken charge of Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain over the past five years.
According to the Daily Mail, after missing out on the Arsenal job, City are willing to offer Arteta a new two-year extension.
Al-Mubarak has spoken enthusiastically over recent weeks about City’s desire to build a legacy and keeping Arteta at the club is very much part of that.
It has already been suggested that Arsenal could look at Arteta again when they next change manager, but City appear determined to try to hold on to him.
They did not try to stand in the way of Arsenal’s interest in him this time around, but now appear ready to try to convince him that he can achieve his career aims at City if he is patient.
