Following an incredible start to the season for Barcelona, which was characterised by Lionel Messi’s blistering goal scoring form, there are strong reports emerging that Cristiano Ronaldo made a bet with his teammates that he would win the Pichichi award – LaLiga’s Golden Boot – ahead of the Argentine.
This is after a difference of 11 goals between the two players.

On Sunday night, Ronaldo continued his superb scoring streak as he helped Real Madrid beat Girona 6-3, scoring four goals during the game.
Ronaldo’s goal-fest against Girona lifted him above Barcelona’s Luis Suarez as second top scorer in La Liga and he moved within three of Lionel Messi, his eternal rival for goal records and individual awards over the last decade.
“Cristiano is three goals from Messi and I hope he can become the top scorer because it’s very important to him,” Real coach Zinedine Zidane had said after the match.
News now broke that the Portuguese veteran made a bet with his Real Madrid team-mates that he will finish this season as the top scorer in Spain as he is obviously well on course to challenge Messi for the Pichichi award.
Marca Reports that as part of Radio MARCA’s El Transistor programme, Jose Ramon de la Morena, revealed that Ronaldo began this challenge in front of his colleagues in order to kickstart his season after a slow run.
Since Ronaldo’s supposed bet, Messi has notched 13 goals with the Real star having scored 21 in the same period, with his sights now firmly set on ending the campaign well and surpassing his rival from the Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, both Real and Barca have nine league matches remaining, including May’s Clasico at the Nou Camp.
Ronaldo’s resurgence mirrors how he hit his peak at the back end of last season when, with the help of sitting out the occasional away game, he fired Real to a double of La Liga and the Champions League.
Their title hopes are long gone but they have every chance of winning a third consecutive European Cup.
Real meet Juventus in the quarter-finals after dispatching Paris St Germain 5-2 on aggregate in the last 16 with three goals from Ronaldo.
