The House of Representatives has recalled its former Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumini Jibrin, from suspension.
It may be recalled that Jibrin was suspended on September 28, 2016 for 180 legislative days and has since been out for over 17 months following a scandal on Budget padding.
His suspension however lasted for more than the stipulated 180 legislative days which is equivalent to one year.
His recall came on the back of a letter he personally signed allegedly apologising to the House.
Although the letter wasn’t fully read before the parliament, the speaker paraphrased it by saying he has apologised and met all the conditions given to him.
“He has fulfilled all the conditions by writing this letter and so he is free to resume his legislative duties whenever he wants, if he so wishes”
As at then, Jibril had accused Dogara and other principal officers of the house of allegedly attempting to pad N30 billion projects into the budget.
He said his “inability to allow” the said projects into the budgets “became an issue” with the lawmakers.
He had also alleged that the speaker, deputy speaker, chief whip and minority leader had allocated “billions of wasteful projects running over 20 billion to their constituencies”.
The House had demanded apology from Jibrin but he vowed never to do so.
