Kepa Arrizabalaga insists it was his decision to extend his contract at Athletic Bilbao in January amid speculation of a move to Real Madrid.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose contract was set to expire in June, penned a new deal at Athletic in January despite the fact he had been tipped to move to European champions Real Madrid.
Discussing why he opted to stay, he told Spanish radio station El Transistor: “My contract was expiring in 2018, from January I could have negotiated [with any other club].
“I had the possibilities of going and of staying at Athletic and that is what I chose.
“I took the decision to renew [my contract at Athletic], no-one made the decision for me because one of the parties changed their decision.”
