You probably would have asked yourself countless times which of the fruits you are eating contains the highest amount of sugars and you didn’t get an answer. It could be that you were given a banana and an apple, and you’re at a loss regarding which of them has more sugar.

While each is a perfectly healthy serving of fruit and both happen to pair wonderfully with peanut butter, one has far more sugar than the other. The average-sized apple, though has lesser calories overall than an average-sized banana, but actually contains about five grams more sugar.

But does it mean that you should go for bananas instead of apples? A lot of people don’t have a good understanding of sugars and the fact that it is not entirely bad. In fact, it takes a whole lot of overeating of added refined sugars to do any real damage to your health.

The stress of worrying about sugar is probably doing more harm than the sugar you’re eating, except if you’re eating loads of it every day. So, here are the fruits that have the most sugars, but it isn’t much of a big deal, except you’re diabetic.

Grapes
A cup of juicy red grapes contains about 15 grams of sugar. The fact is some grapes are sweeter than others. For example, cotton candy grapes contain more sugars, which is what gives them their super sweet flavour.

Cherries
Dried cherries are far denser in sugar content than the fresh kind. One-third of a cup of dried cherries contain about 30 grams of sugar. Some of this sugar is added after the fruits are dried.

A cup of fresh cherries however has about 20 grams of sugar. Asides the sweetness, cherries have some health benefits since they contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Mangoes
If you eat a whole mango fruit, you will be eating about 46 grams of sugar, which is more than what you get eating doughnuts. However, a serving of mangoes is typically considered to be about a cup’s worth. A cup contains 23 grams of sugar, which is about half that of the full mango.

Lychees
Lychees are not particularly popular but it is an exotic fruit that is a favorite addition to Thai restaurant menus and cocktails. The fruit is surrounded by red, leathery skin, the ripe white inside of the fruit is super sweet to taste.

A cup of lychees has nearly 30 grams of sugar. It however also contains more than 100 percent of your recommended daily value of vitamin C. While they maybe difficult to eat, they are definitely worth it.

Figs
Not particularly popular in th tropics, Figs are the most sugar-dense fruit you can eat as one medium-sized fig contains approximately 8 grams of sugar. A serving of figs usually amounts to four of the wrinkly fruits, meaning that you’d be consuming 32 grams of sugar total in your serving.

It is best for you to eat proteins and healthy fats along with your fruit, especially if that fruit is part of a meal. The mistake a lot of people make with their smoothies is that they only add in fruit and miss out on the other nutrients they need.
