Paul Scholes revealed that Phil Jones played a major role in ending Paul Pogba’s first stint at Old Trafford.

In chat with BT Sports Jake Humphreys following United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield, he spoke about his sensational return to the sport in 2012.

As well as revealing that Gareth Bale and Moussa Dembele played a role in his own demise, Scholes pinpointed the moment that led to Pogba leaving the club for Juventus in 2012.

“The team were struggling a bit and had no central midfield players,” he said.

“I think Phil Jones and Fabio were playing there against Blackburn at Old Trafford.

Funnily enough, that was the end of Pogba that night because he thought he should be playing centre midfield instead of those two.

“Whereas, as it happened, he was playing in the reserve team and wasn’t doing well enough there to warrant that.

“So I went to [Warren] Joyce (the reserve team coach) and said I was thinking about coming back.”
