Jose Mourinho is lining up Inter Milan’s Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario as a replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Manchester United, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker has failed to really settle in under the Portuguese manager at Old Trafford and hasn’t started a game in over a month.
Joao Mario was part of Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning squad but hasn’t lived up to expectations at Inter following his move from Sporting Lisbon after the tournament.
Inter would also consider selling the 24-year-old for €45 million (£39.5m), which is what they paid to sign the Portugal international from Sporting last year.
Joao Mario has struggled for playing time with Inter this season and has started just four games in Serie A.
