Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was reportedly involved in an angry dressing-room bust-up with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson following his side’s 2-1 derby defeat at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi saw City come away from the home of their local rivals and closest challengers with a record-breaking 14th consecutive Premier League win, opening up an 11-point gap at the top of the table in the process.
City’s dressing-room celebrations after the match reportedly irritated Mourinho, and The Telegraph claims that the Portuguese went to the door of his opponents to ask them to show more respect by turning their music down.
Mourinho allegedly had water squirted at him and was hit on the head by an empty plastic bottle while a melee ensued involving more than 20 players and staff.
Some players tried to swing punches at each other while police looked on in disbelief.
United’s security staff were forced to disperse the brawl as United players blamed City’s for ‘rubbing their noses in defeat’ by ‘whooping and cheering’.
City insiders say their players and staff did nothing wrong and were reacting to Mourinho’s aggressive manner.
Mikel Arteta received a cut eyebrow and another employee was injured when Romelu Lukaku threw a bottle.
Jose Mourinho accused Ederson of play-acting to waste time then screamed at him, “You fucking show respect. Who are you?”
