Barcelona are once again considering bringing in a new centre back in January, reports Marca.
The Catalans, who have an option to sign Colombia international Yerry Mina for €9m next summer, hadn’t planned to bring in a new defender during the upcoming transfer window but they are re-considering after Javier Mascherano recently sustained an injury.
Whether or not they draft in a new arrival at the back in January will depend upon the performances of Thomas Vermaelen from now until the end of the year.
Real Sociedad’s Inigo Martinez, who was heavily linked with a move to Barca in the summer, remains on their shortlist of defensive targets. He would cost €32m and would be eligible to play in the Champions League.
Barca have also received good scouting reports on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah and Basel’s Manuel Akanji.
