Liverpool are competing with Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign winger Bernard from Shakhtar Donetsk, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.
Benard is currently contracted to Shakhtar only until next summer, meaning come the end of the season the 25-year-old will be available to purchase on a free.
The Ukrainian giants do not want to lose their star for nothing and will hope to strike a deal in January, which could push interested clubs to move earlier than initially planned.
An £11.5m asking price has been set, which could be a bargain considering the fees seen last summer for other wingers.
Bernard has scored six goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for Shakhtar so far this season, already an improvement on his totals of the past three seasons.
