Antoine Griezmann Reveals How Arsenal Ended Up Signing Yaya Sanogo Instead Of Him in 2013

Antoine Griezmann claimed Arsenal kept him “waiting” over a potential move in 2013 and that he would not consider a move to the Emirates in the future.

The Atletico Madrid forward, who was playing for Real Sociedad at the time, says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was intent on signing him during the summer window four years ago.

But in his autobiography, Behind The Smile,Antoine Griezmann says: “I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting … when there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.

“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.

“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him: ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us.”

Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a then club record fee, but the only young French talent they acquired that summer was Yaya Sanogo.
