There are a number of habits that you probably don’t see as bad that you do before stepping out and leaving for work that hinders productivity. The truth is most men do not have time to spare before work but still have loads of opportunities to mess up their day.
Some of these bad things can leave a damper on your day and it is best to avoid such morning mishaps. Here are the 5 most common mistakes men make after they wake.
Brushing Your Teeth Immediately After Eating
While we all don’t want to work into our offices with stinky breath, brushing up right after breakfast— especially if you’ve downed acidic stuff like fruit or coffee can actually push sugars into the surface of your teeth and erode your enamel.
One study conducted on people who drank an acidic beverage, found that those who waited 30 to 60 minutes before brushing lost significantly less tooth enamel compared to those who brushed within 20 minutes.
As such, it is best to brush your teeth after waking but before you eat. Also remember to drink a glass of water right after your meal, which will help your mouth feel a little cleaner. If you are one of those people that can’t stand to skip brushing after breakfast, it is best you hold off for half an hour after you eat.
Using Hot Water To Bath
While the pulse of hot water feels good on the body, especially when you’re tired, chances are it may be luring you back into dreamland. Heat tells your nervous system that it’s time for your muscles to relax and for your heart rate to slow down. This will most likely make you feel calm and sleepy.
If you want to feel more awake, it is best for you to take a quick cold shower. While this maybe difficult, it helps a lot as it signals the release of the energizing hormone adrenaline. It may also help to boost your mood, too, especially since various researches have shown that cold showers can flood the body with feel-good endorphins.
Eating Loads Of Carbohydrates For Breakfast
Foods rich in carbohydrates such as a bowl of eba or pastries can send your entire diet spiralling even hours after you gobbled it down. Research suggests that if you pick empty carbohydrates over protein-rich food in the morning, you might be more likely to be on the look out for junkier foods all day long.
Instead of chowing down on your favourite food, your aim should be to get at least 20 grams of muscle- building protein in your morning meal. That is roughly the amount of protein you will get from two whole eggs and two egg whites. It will not only make you stay fuller for longer, but also help you keep your fat loss goals on track, overtime.
Checking Your Work email The Minute You Wake Up
The truth is the flood of new messages that maybe waiting for you on your phone can throw you into panic mode before you’ve even had the chance to be fully awake and responding to an email when you’re half awake can make you prone to mistakes.
A recent University of British Columbia study found that people who check their email at designated times report feeling less stressed than those who are exposed to a constant flow of new messages. As such, if you must log in before you reach your desk, pick a set time when you’re fully awake to do so.
