Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga is Real Madrid’s preferred choice to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of next season, reports Marca.
Kepa Arrizabalaga contract at Athletic expires in June and although he has been in talks over a new deal for several months, he is yet to reach an agreement.
Madrid are hopeful he will withstand the pressure to sign a new contract as it would allow them to snap him up on a free transfer next summer.
Athletic Bilbao latest offer of 3 million euros net per season was batted back by Kepa with the club’s highest paid stars, Inaki Williams and Aymeric Laporte, endowed with 5m euro annual salaries.
Arrizabalaga was with the Spain squad for their World Cup qualifiers and celebrated his birthday while on international duty on Tuesday.
