Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks has committed his long-term future, signing an improved four-year contract at Bramall Lane.
David Brooks, 20, has put pen to paper with the Blades until the summer of 2021 after being linked with Chelsea and Everton, and manager Chris Wilder said: “I’m delighted that David has yet again extended his contract – he’s been rewarded for an excellent start to the season.
“David sees his future at Sheffield United and that’s what we want to hear because, without doubt, he is one of the hottest properties outside the top-flight.”
Brooks’ new deal will not kill the speculation altogether, of course, and an offer that cannot be refused may yet land in the Bramall Lane in-tray. But that’s for another day.
Today, United have strengthened their position and retained the services of one of their best young stars in years. Then came the media work, meeting the assembled press. The photos, the interviews. The contract, the future.
All part of the journey. But, for now, the lad just wants to play football.
