Jose Mourinho has said selling Wayne Rooney was not a hard decision to take, saying the club legend deserved the right to decide his future.
Rooney rejoined his boyhood club of Everton in the summer, after spending 13 years at United and becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Mourinho has previously claimed he was not interested in letting the former England international leave, but says it was a fairly easy decision.
“I think it is easy. When the legend decides. I think so [it is the legend’s choice],” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“That way it is easy because you don’t have to think a lot.
“You just have to respect the player’s desire, and what they decide. And when they’re a legend they deserve that freedom of choice.”
