Messages Of Congratulations Flood In As Serena Williams Gives Birth To Baby Girl

Messages of congratulations have been pouring in from sports stars and celebrities after tennis legend, Serena Williams, welcomed her first child, a baby girl, with fiancé and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, in Florida on Friday.

It is understood that Williams, 35, was admitted to the St Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach on Wednesday.

“Obviously, I’m super excited,” Serena’s big sister, Venus Williams, told ESPN shortly before her match at the US Open on Friday afternoon. “Words can’t describe.”

After the news broke, pal Beyoncé, who recently welcomed twins, offered up her well wishes to the pro athlete, posting on Instagram, “Congratulations Serena!”

Some on Twitter have, like Garbine Muguruza, been speculating about the baby’s potential tennis ability.

At a news conference, Muguruza, the world number three, joked; “a baby girl? Well, I hope she doesn’t play tennis,” Reuters reported.

“Congratulations @SerenaWilliams for your baby girl. I am so happy for you and I feel your emotion,” her coach Patrick Mouratoglou said on Twitter on Friday.

“Btw … I wish you a speedy recovery… we have a lot of work ahead of us,” he added.

Rafa Nadal is among those who have sent their congratulations to the tennis ace after the birth of her first child.

Spain’s tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal tweeted: “Congrats Serena! So much joy for you!”

Fellow American Sloane Stephens said she expected to see a lot of the newborn. “I am very happy for her,” she said. “I cannot wait to see the little baby girl on tour because I am sure she will be around.”

Williams confirmed her pregnancy in April hours after triggering frenzied speculation when she accidentally posted a short-lived selfie on social media with the caption: “20 weeks”.
