Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has “sustained injuries” in a car crash in the Netherlands, the club has confirmed, less than 48 hours before Saturday’s clash with Chelsea.
“Sergio Aguero will be assessed by Club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday.
“The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries.”
“He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Chelsea,” said Manchester City’s statement.
The accident occurred on De Boelelaan street, said Zuiderhoek, not far from the Arena A where Colombian singer Maluma performed last night.
The Argentine striker had been at a concert in Holland when the taxi he was in careered into a pole while taking him to the airport on Thursday night.
It is understood that he was saved by his seatbelt when the Crysler PT Cruiser he was being driven in to the airport careered head on into a post.
The 29-year-old Argentine striker however suffered two broken ribs after cheating death in the horror car crash last night.
There are reports emerging on Friday morning in Argentina suggesting that he will be out for at least two months, while City is yet to confirm what injuries the 29-year-old sustained and the duration of his injuries.
The news of Aguero’s car accident comes a day after City announced that left-back Benjamin Mendy had ruptured knee ligaments and would be sidelined for a lengthy spell.
Before the show, Aguero had sent a social media post out saying thanks for the invitation complete with a photo of himself and singer Maluma.
