Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Naby Keita for a club-record fee from RB Leipzig and will be joining the club July 1, 2018.
Liverpool had to pay a premium for the Guinea international, after meeting his release clause of £48 million, which could be only activated next summer, to finalise a deal this summer window.
Leipzig, who were determined to play him this year, due to their UCL responsibilities, rejected two good offers from Liverpool.
And with Keita eager to play for Liverpool, a decision was met to satisfy the parties involved.
“I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly,” the dynamo said.
“My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt – that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance.
“Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance.”
