Crystal Palace have made a bid to sign Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala.
Despite reports elsewhere, it has NOT been rejected. However, they’re still hoping to sign Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool who remains their first choice.
City ideally need to get Mangala’s £140,000 a week salary off their wage bill before wrapping up a deal for Evans, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Leicester, a distant third in the running.
West Brom were hoping to sign Mangala on loan as Evans’ replacement but the France centre-half is reticent about moving to the Hawthorns.
Now Palace, who have lost their opening three Premier League games under Frank de Boer, are ready to rescue his career.
It is set to be a dramatic deadline day for struggling Palace who are determined to land a centre-back.
If they fail, they could even make yet another attempt to land Sakho, 27, who is understood to be keen to seal a move to Palace having played for the club on loan last season.
