Arsene Wenger continues to stress Alexis Sanchez will remain at Arsenal beyond this summer’s transfer window and hopes he will extend his contract, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil).
Both players have just one year left on their contracts which has led to Manchester City preparing a bid for Sánchez while the Premier League champions are considering moving for Oxlade-Chamberlain, with some outlets claiming the midfielder is angling for a £150,000-a-week pay packet from the west London club.

Q: Do you stand by the fact that he [Sanchez] still won’t leave before the end of the transfer window, that he will be here in September?
“Yeah, of course, Wenger replied.
Q. Are clubs taking power back from the players? We’re seeing Liverpool…
“It’s difficult to say ‘power back’, Wenger said. “I just think… It looks unusual to the media sometimes that clubs want contracts to be respected. For me, it looks logical so I am amazed that you are amazed because it looks normal. If I sign a contract, I respect it. Of course if a club releases me it’s normal that I can go somewhere else. I know when I signed for two years at Arsenal, it’s a contract and I have to respect it.”
