Ajax Chief Marc Overmars Explains Why They Failed To Sign Richarlison

Ajax chief Marc Overmars admits they could not stop Fluminense striker Richarlison from Joining Watford.

Ajax have been locked in talks to sign the Brazilian forward for weeks and although a deal looked close, they have now been trumped by an offer from Watford

Overmars admitted: “It’s a tough market because many players are in the hands of big investors. Brazil is the hardest because they change the rules of the game every day.

“We’re just working differently. In South America it’s quite normal for clubs to hold twenty to thirty percent of a player’s rights. Ajax does not want to cooperate, that’s bad for us.”

Richarlison, 20, played 38 games for Flu, scoring ten goals.

Ajax are still looking to strengthen their attack and defence before the transfer window shuts at the end of next month. So far only Klaas-jan Huntelaar and Benjamin van Leer have been signed this summer.
