Microwaves are some of the most useful appliances for the modern and upwardly mobile individual as you can heat and reheat foods and beverages at your convenience. Water In A Mug
Heating up water in a mug for the purpose of making tea, coffee or something totally unrelated may seem quite normal to do with your microwave because of the fact that it is quicker and more convenient than doing so with an electric kettle or mug.
Heating a mug of water in the microwave can however cause the mug to superheat without actually boiling the water. When you then add a tea bag or stir the liquid in the mug, it may boil rapidly and cause the fluids to spill or explode. This may cause you serious and severe burns.
Eggs In Shells
You should surely not try to hard boil an egg by putting it through the microwaving process. While you may consider doing so as a genius life-hack, it is a potentially dangerous thing to do.
Scientists believe the high temperatures in the microwave tends to create steam within the egg, which, as the pressure builds, can cause the egg to explode, which of cause, isn’t a great thing.
Any type of processed meats such as hot dogs should not be microwaved. According to research published in the journal Food Control, microwaving processed meats which mostly contains a lot of preservatives, can lead to the formation of cholesterol oxidation products (COPs).
The COPs have been linked to coronary heart disease in the past through researchers in India. What this means is that microwaving processed meats is yet another way of making an already bad food worse. If you want to eat this meat, warm and cook over your stove.
A lot of breastfeeding mothers tend to expel their milk and freeze it so that it can be saved for when needed. Some proceed to thaw it at room temperature which is a good thing. Microwaving breast milk however is a bad thing that should never be done in the first place.
Microwaving breast milk can cause the milk to heat up unevenly, creating hot spots that could scald the sensitive palates of your baby.
Chilli pepper contains capsaicin and it is a compound that tends to determine how spicy the peppers are. Capsaicin tends to vapourize when it is exposed to the high temperatures that is common with the microwave.
The chilli pepper will however not explode but will give off dangerous fumes that should be avoided as much as possible.
