The Originals finally comes to an end after 5 seasons of keeping viewers stuck to their television and following the stories of our favourite characters. The Originals was created as a spin-off of the Vampire Diaries and it followed vampire Klaus Mikaelson as he and his family become embroiled in the supernatural politics of New Orleans.
The Originals as a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries centered around the Mikaelson siblings, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).
The ending of The Originals in its fifth season was announced by series creator Julie Plec ahead of Comic Con and has been described as “both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series.”
While it was pretty tough for lovers of this genre to bid farewell to The Vampire Diaries when it’s end was announced, it appears it’s time to do the same for its spin-off series The Originals.
Show runner Julie Plec confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of The Originals will be its last ahead of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, by paying tribute to the fans, cast and crew of the series. He also went ahead to invite lovers of the television show to “help us say goodbye to The Originals”.
It is expected that the storyline of The Originals will be pretty much wrapped up in a nice way that the viewers will love if words of the showrunners are anything to go by. Julie Plec through a tweet posted on twitter said, “It’s both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series,” she wrote. She went on further to write, “Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come.”
If her words are anything to go by, not all lovers of the show may fancy the ending as she revealed that the series’ end will be a “bittersweet” one. Julie Plec went further to acknowledge that working on the television show has been a “true blessing”, especially since she was give a say in making the critical decisions that affected the show.
She further stated that, “I want each actor to play their last scene as their character, and to put their character to bed with grace and care.”
The good news however is that she somewhat hinted while addressing fans directly that there maybe another spin-off from the Vampire Diaries, akin to The Originals. I her words, “Celebrate with us, cry with us, visit with us, watch us next spring when we air…
“And know that in a show about an immortal family who believes in ‘Always and Forever’, it’s never really the end of the story…”
If her words are anything to go by, then lovers of the television show should anticipate a new series, even as they wait for the fifth and final season of The Originals which begins shooting next week.
