New West Brom signing Jay Rodriguez announced his arrival with a brilliant goal against Leicester today – and here’s what team-mate Jonny Evans had to say…
“It’s probably a bit different for him than what he is used to with all the physical training that we do but he’s knuckled down and you can see he’s determined to do well.
“He’s been working hard and like the manager said, he’s got a bit of a point to prove with his past injury experiences and he took his goal really well today.
“He strikes the ball really well and we’ve seen glimpses of that in training so hopefully it is something he can bring to us this season.”
Jay Rodriguez, 27, had been on the edge of the England World Cup squad in 2014 before a serious knee injury derailed his promising career.
Rodriguez managed just nine Premier League starts and scored only five goals last season.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis jumped at the chance to sign Rodriguez – and in a friendly in Hong Kong, the striker gave a glimpse of what could be to come next season.
On his first start for the club, Rodriguez picked up the ball about 25 yards out.
Turning, he took another touch before unleashing a rocket past Ben Hamer.

Pulis has only made one other signing so far this summer, bringing in Chinese international Zhang Yuning – who has already gone on a two-year loan to Werder Bremen.
