Watford are close to landing Derby’s highly-rated midfielder Will Hughes, in a deal which could rise to £8m.
An agreement between the two clubs is thought to be close, however a medical is not imminent as Hughes is currently in Poland as part of England’s U21s European Championships squad.
Will Hughes was one of the country’s brightest teenagers when he made his debut for Derby as a 16-year old in 2011.
He was coveted by a number of Premier League clubs and was linked with a £15m move to Liverpool.
However he suffered a cruciate ligament injury at Bolton during the opening game of the 2015/16 season and was side-lined for 8 months.
Hughes has scored nine goals in 165 appearances for Derby.
Hughes’ agent is Paolo Vernazza, the former Watford midfielder, and negotiations are now at an advanced stage between the two clubs. Gary Rowett, the Derby manager, is prepared to sell players to raise money for transfers and is reluctantly ready to bring Hughes’ spell in the east Midlands to an end.
