Watford could approach Claudio Ranieri if they opt to sack Walter Mazzarri at the end of the season, according to The Sun.
Current manager Mazzarri’s future is uncertain despite succeeding in securing The Hornets’ Premier League survival this season.
Watford’s owner Gino Pozzo is said to be disappointed by his team’s displays at times during this campaign and is keen to bring in last season’s Premier League winner Ranieri to Vicarage Road.
Pozzo dispensed of Quique Flores last summer despite a 13th-placed finish – avoiding an immediate return to the Championship for the first time in the club’s Premier League history – and a trip to the FA Cup semi-finals.
Ranieri is known to be a friend of the Pozzo family, although he is reportedly unwilling to discuss terms while Mazzarri remains in the job.
