Mauricio Pochettino is quite surprised Dele Alli didn’t make the shortlist for the PFA player of the year award.
Harry Kane was nominated for the award and the young player of the year award, which Alli was also nominated for.
Pochettino is quite happy both his players are recognised for both awards, but feels the young England player should have been recognised for the PFA player of the year accolade.
“I’m very pleased for Harry, and for Dele too, and I think all their team-mates are very pleased and happy for them, the club, our fans. I think it is very good news for us,” he said.
When asked if he thought Alli should be on the main list, Pochettino said: “I think maybe, yes. Maybe agree with you. I think yes.
“Ali is showing a great performance every week in every game. He has improved a lot from last season, I think he is a better player, showing better stats and in my opinion he deserves it.
“Always the people want to see in the second season if he can confirm all he showed last season and he not only confirmed that but improved all the aspects of his game.
“That means he is clever, intelligent, potential to improve and learn and today he has shown he is one of the best players in the Premier League.”
