Mark Hughes has played down reports Stoke are plotting a move for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, reports The Sentinel.
The England international’s future at Old Trafford has been the subject of debate following Jose Mourinho’s public criticism of his attitude and performances.
But Potters boss Hughes has distanced himself from a move for Shaw, labelling it as unrealistic.
But Hughes, who currently has Erik Pieters and Marc Muniesa at his disposal at left back, said this morning: “You look at all good players, but that’s not one that’s realistic for us, to be honest.”
Shaw’s wages, let alone fee, would certainly eat a huge hole into Stoke’s summer budget, but the option of a season-long loan might be a way around that.
Hughes, however, is unlikely to see left back as one of his priority positions to strengthen in the next transfer window.
