Torino striker Andrea Belotti has admitted he may not be worth the €100m release clause in his contract as Manchester United continue to be linked with a summer move.
“I honestly do not feel that I am worth so much,” he told Italian TV show Tika Taka. “In football, however, the figures have increased dramatically, and the values of the players have gone through the roof.”
The transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United for €105m last summer is currently the world-record transfer fee, while the sale of Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli to Juventus last July set a new Serie A record at €90m.
Belotti says he does not feel he belongs in a category with such players or any of the former Serie A greats yet.
“Hernan Crespo did far more than I have — I’ve achieved nothing yet,” Belotti said. “[Andriy] Shevchenko was also a champion both on and off the field and he was my idol. I was struck by how he was able to score goals in so many different ways.”
