Atletico Madrid have started negotiations to improve Antoine Griezmann’s contract, reports AS.
Antoine Griezmann, who is reportedly wanted by several sides across Europe, is set to stay on at Atleti with the Spanish capital club in talks to improve his deal.
Atleti are believed to want to retain their marquee player and they are planning to raise his salary from €7m (£6m) a year to €10m (£8.5m) a year.
In addition to an increase in the player’s wage, it is also understood that Los Rojiblancos would seek to increase his release clause (currently €100m), and extend his contract beyond its current 2021 expiry.
Atlético will hope that this offer will be sufficient to persuade Griezmann to stay put for the long-term. At the very least, if Griezmann agrees to these improved terms, Atléti’s bargaining position will be strong, as Europe’s heavyweights hover over the diminutive number 7.
