Anthony Martial’s Goal Against Burnley Cost Manchester United £8.4 Million

Antony Martial’s goal against Burnley cost Manchester United an extra £8.4m under the terms of his move from Monaco in 2015. Martial scored his 25th goal for United at Turf Moor, which triggered the payment.

The France striker joined Manchester United from Monaco in September 2015 for €50 million – a large fee for a teenager – but with add-ons, he has proven even more expensive.

The first of those add-ons came into play after Anthony Martial scored his 25th goal for the club in a 2-0 win against Burnley – United will pay Monaco €10 million as a result.

Anthony Martial scored his 24th goal for United back in February, but it took over a month for him to get to 25. His next goals could be worth a lot more than the €10 million this one cost though.

Manchester United have a clause in their contract with adidas that means they’ll lose more than £20m in sponsorship income if they fail to qualify for next year’s Champions League, so any Martial goals that push them into the top four will be plenty worth it.Martial scored his 24th goal for United back in February, but it took over a month for him to get to 25.
